about kyle marcotte
In 2008 my father lost his job and had to scramble to find work. The only job he could find was 4 hours away in Houston, TX cleaning pools. My family lived in Austin, Texas at the time and with me and my brother being in middle school and highschool respectively he didn’t want to have to relocate our whole family. So he took it upon himself to make the 4 hour drive to Houston every Monday, clean pools all week in the 100 degree heat of Houston and then sleep in his old, beat up F-150 during the weekdays. Then come home to Austin on the weekends.
I WATCHED MY PARENTS STRUGGLE FINANCIALLY WHEN I WAS A KID AND SAW HOW HARD THEY WOULD WORK JUST TO BARELY KEEP ABOVE WATER.
I wanted something different for our family and at the time I thought that meant going to college and getting a “safe” job. So I set out to become a doctor. After spending my teenage years dedicating myself to getting into a good school and using soccer as a means to do so, I was able to get an offer to play Division 1 soccer at the University of California, Davis. I was ecstatic, UC Davis is a great school and they play in one of the best conferences for soccer in the country.
However, when I got to school I realized this whole “prescribed path” is nonsense. We sign up to trade our best years from 20 to 65 all for the promise of a retirement that may never come. I found myself scrambling to keep up with class work assigned by teachers and workouts, practices and games assigned by my coaches. I DIDN’T OWN MY TIME!
THEN SOMETHING AMAZING HAPPENED;
I read a book called rich dad poor dad. This book opened my mind to a new way of thinking and perceiving the economy that we live in. I was so excited that someone had put words to the emotions that I was feeling and decided to do nothing but learn more about this new idea of being an entrepreneur and investing for passive income.
Long story short, I spent the next 6 months doing nothing but obsessing about real estate investing. I absorbed every piece of content you can find day and night.
I STOPPED GOING TO CLASS, I QUIT SOCCER, I COMPLETELY BURNED THE BOATS AND FORCED MYSELF TO TAKE MASSIVE ACTION TOWARD MY DREAM OF A BETTER LIFE FOR MY FAMILY
By the grace of God my efforts paid off. After many long and challenging months of physical, mental and emotional exhaustion I was finally able to close my first deal. A 107 unit multifamily property in Louisville, Kentucky.
Since then I have become a full-time multifamily investor and coach. My passion is to educate people on multifamily real estate and help them to use it to change their lives as I used it to change my own.
